  • Apple Expands AMEX Partnership to Push Apple Pay Globally

It was a brief but still notable admission from Apple CEO Tim Cook on Tuesday afternoon's earnings call.

Apple is officially teaming up with American Express as a means to give consumers access to the mobile money platform in new countries. There was no formal announcement made by Apple, but Cook confirmed plans in a call with reports today after Apple reported record fiscal Q4 earnings.

As a result of the coupling with AMEX, Apple Pay will reach consumers in Canada, Australia, Spain, Hong Kong, and other markets like Singapore as 2016 progresses.

Although Apple Pay has already made a splash across the pond in the United Kingdom, Apple Pay isn't exactly a global phenomenon, with a worldwide expansion of the platform taking much longer than some Apple watchers and analysts had initially anticipated.
