  • Apple's iPhone 6s Gets 'Dual Crown' Title Topping Smartphone Market in US and China

A new report from Counterpoint Technology Market Research notes that Apple’s newest flagship device has broken records in China. It was said that 7 million iPhone 6s/6s Plus devices were sold in just one month’s time, reaching 19% share of smartphone sales last month. In the lead is the Cupertino-based company’s newest Rose Gold finish, which helped them climb ahead of Chinese company Huawei (in second place) and Xiaomi (in third place). As for Korean-based company Samsung, rankings have dropped tremendously.

China and U.S. are the two biggest smartphone markets in the world and it was said that smartphone sales in the U.S. was also led by Apple, which earned Apple ‘dual crowns’. According to Tom Kang, Counterpoint’s Research Director,

Apple has now conquered the Chinese market so it will come under sustained attack from local competitors. But it is becoming an embedded brand in China, standing for luxury and high quality.
It was noted that the way the company completes the global monthly sales database is dependent on sales surveyed at retailers and across 35 countries, along with demand-side surveys, supply chain surveys, and Analyst estimates as well. Kang’s colleague Peter Richardson also said in the report that India will most likely be Apple’s next target market, but that Apple will have to think of a different approach as they are very different than the Chinese market.
