  • Apple Quietly Acquires Hot Startup Called Perceptio

Very quietly, Apple acquired a promising young startup called Perceptio.

The technology firm, we're told, will help Apple to empower companies to run advanced artificial intelligence systems on mobile devices -- like iPhones and iPads -- without requiring them to share as much user data.

Bloomberg reports that the execs in charge of the acquired company -- Nicolas Pinto and Zak Stone -- are IA veterans who can bring a whole new world of expertise to Apple.

Although Apple reportedly confirmed the acquisition to Bloomberg, terms of the deal weren’t publicized, with a company rep giving the press a familiar statement: "Apple buys smaller technology companies from time to time, and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans."

Per the Bloomberg report, Apple said as recently as last week that it purchased a U.K.-based software startup "that made AI technology to create Siri-like digital personal assistants capable of having longer conversations."
