  • Apple Lists the Top 25 XcodeGhost Infected Apps on its Dedicated FAQ Page

    Apple recently published its list of the top 25 iOS apps that were affected by China’s XcodeGhost malware. This move signifies the next step in the Cupertino California company’s continued effort to rid infected devices of the tainted software that was distributed through the iOS App Store. In posting its app list to its XcodeGhost FAQ page, Apple intends to educate potentially affected consumers and help get rid of the remaining copies of malware that users might have inadvertently downloaded over the past weekend. The company is urging customers to update impacted apps immediately noting that titles that aren’t currently on the App Store should return soon.

    The Cupertino California company said the following regarding the matter:

    After the top 25 impacted apps, the number of impacted users drops significantly,
    … adding that it is working directly with developers to get affected apps back up for download.

    Apple’s list of the top 25 apps that were affected by XcodeGhost included the following:

    • Baidu Music - A Music Player that has Downloads, Ringtones, Music Videos, Radio, and Karaoke
    • DuoDuo Ringtone
    • NetEase Music - An Essential for Radio and Song Download
    • Foreign Harbor - The Hottest Platform for Oversea Shopping*
    • Battle of Freedom (The MOBA mobile game)

    As of right now, all known instances of XcodeGhost have been removed and Apple has promised to host Xcode on its Chinese servers, providing a quicker download speed for developers in the country. The Cupertino California company even went as far as wiping all infected apps from the App Store, currently blocking submissions that contain any malware, all while working with developers in fixing their apps to help streamline the effort to get them back in the App Store sooner rather than later.

    Apple’s response to the whole situation has been quite swift and it appears that the company is going above and beyond in several scenarios, all of which is nice to see.
