  • Apple CEO Tim Cook to Meet With Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi

According to India’s Economic Times, Apple CEO Tim Cook is meeting India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi at the end of this month. Modi is touring the West Coast and will then meet with Cook when in California. As of right now, it is unclear as to what topics will be discussed between the two when they meet, but it was noted that the Prime Minister’s office is still in discussion with Apple about some sort of plan.

It was reported that Modi may want to talk to the Apple CEO about doing manufacturing and R&D in India. According to an Economic Times source, Apple may also want to learn about investment regulations in foreign countries so that he could open the first Apple Store in the region. Currently in India, Apple products are only being sold by third-party re-sellers, which means the company has to make deals and depend on those re-sellers in order to have their goods sold in India.

Apple is growing rapidly in India just like they are in China, with June quarter iPhone numbers rising 93% in India. We believe based on these numbers, the Cupertino-based company sees this as time to expand in the region and be in control of their own products.
