  • Apple Set to Ship New Apple TV Hardware to Developers by the End of this Week

Apple recently began to inform developers who won its Apple TV lottery that the new set-top box would begin to ship later this week, allowing them to build applications ahead of the product launch set to take place in October. These developers were contacted by Apple via email and were told to accept and purchase their new Apple TV by Wednesday. As part of the purchase, Apple is only charging the chosen developers $1 for the purchase to verify their name and address before shipping the unit.

Developers who complete their purchase are informed by Apple that the unit will be shipping within 1 to 3 business days. With a turnaround like this, itís possible that some of the developers could begin receiving their new Apple TV by the end of this week.

The revamped Apple TV was announced this past week and features a dedicated App Store with third-party software. Developers are able to create apps for the new Apple TV just like they do for Appleís other devices such as the iPhone, iPad and Mac. Furthermore, the new Apple TV powers its App Store with an all-new operating system which has been dubbed tvOS. Aside from the obvious app functionality, one of the other key defining features on the new Apple TV is a Siri Remote, which allows users to quickly find and narrow down content by just using voice. It also features motion sensors and a touchpad as new forms of input as well.

For those of you who didnít know, the new Apple TV launches for the public in October starting at $149 for the entry-level 32 GB model and $199 for the 64 GB iteration.

Will any of you be buying a new Apple TV? Share your thoughts below!

I will definitely be getting one. I've been using a PC hooked up to my HDTV and its been nice and all, but this is way more organized and the UI and remote would be great to have. I wish they pulled from Amazon Prime Instant Video as well, but it seems they do not at this time. Hopefully someone can jailbreak this box. I would love to see Kodi on there as an app. I did hear Plex will have an app though, which may suffice.Attachment 713526
