  • New BMW CEO, Harald Krueger, Open to Partnerships with Tech Firms such as Apple

The new BMW CEO, Harald Krueger, is expressing interest in partnerships with Apple and other tech firms according to recent reports. Krueger told Germanys Sueddeutsche Zeitung the following regarding the matter:

Fundamentally, both partners need to profit from the cooperation, otherwise it will not last. And both companies need to share the same principles, for example with regard to data security.
Apple and BMW have allegedly been in the talks for quite some time to the extent that Apple CEO Tim Cook and a team of senior managers visited BMWs electric car facility in Leipzig in 2014. Rumors are suggesting that BMW could be one of the manufacturing partners for an Apple car. Although Apple is still believed to have several hundred people working on its car project which touts the codename, Project Titan, it lacks any deals or facilities for actually building any project out. Krueger did address that there is a possibility of manufacturing linking-up. He said the following when asked about the possibility:

Let me answer in general terms. There is something which makes BMW Group and Apple very similar. Both are companies with strong brands.
It should be noted that BMW previously expressed caution about sharing information with companies such as Apple as it worried that it might effectively just become one of the suppliers. At the same time though, technologies such as those required for a self-driving system may demand help from tech-forward companies such as Apple and Google, which are likely to be more familiar with software.

Well have to wait for more concrete information but the anticipation is getting quite exciting.
