  • Geely, China's Larger Private Car Manufacturer, Announces Support for Apple's CarPlay

One of the largest auto manufacturers in China, Geely, recently announced that it has signed a deal with Apple to integrate CarPlay into an upcoming compact SUV model. This marks a first for Apple and Geely, who is now the first Chinese auto manufacturer to support the infotainment system.

As of right now, there isn’t much information about Geely’s unnamed SUV other than the fact that it is set to be unveiled later this year. According to gizchina, the company’s largest private carmaker made it a point to advertise compatibility with Apple’s CarPlay though.

When it comes to Geely, CarPlay integration was a move that might have been inevitable considering it counts Volvo among one of its subsidiaries. For those of you who didn’t know, the Swedish carmaker was one of the first to commit to Apple’s solution, though the status of the project continues to remain unknown. After showing off the concept of having CarPlay integrated into the in-dash unit, Volvo hasn’t said much about its future availability shipping with one of its cars.

As far as Geely goes, the company plans to launch its CarPlay-equipped SUV in 2016.

The inked deal and the advertising effort being put into the news can play a large role for Apple in the automotive industry. We’ll have to wait and see if CarPlay continues to gain traction and furthermore, if consumers grow to like the offering.
