  • New Report Claims No October Apple Event This Year, iPad Pro Unveiling Today

Apple’s iPhone event has yet to begin and a new report from Daring Fireball’s John Gruber noted that there won’t be a usual October media event from Apple this year. Apple typically holds an October event every year to announce their upcoming iPad lineup and this year there were rumors that the 12.9-inch ‘iPad Pro’ would be announced at next month’s event. A 21.5-inch iMac with 4K Retina display was also rumored to unveil along with the iPad Pro.

Gruber noted there won’t be an October presentation, but he then reported that the iPad Pro would be unveiled at today’s iPhone media event. We’re not sure how likely that is, but Apple has been changing a lot of things around lately so we could be very wrong. If this is true, today’s ‘Hey Siri’ presentation will have a ton of unveilings, including the iPhone 6s/6s Plus, the iPad Pro, an all new Apple TV with App Store, iOS 9, the Apple Watch watchOS 2 update, and OS X 10.11 El Capitan.

Today’s new information is very different that what Gruber predicted early Tuesday, as he felt Apple would be holding off on all iPad reveals until October (since that’s the usual for Apple since 2012). However, in the ‘last minute predictions’ post, he wrote

Lot of little birdies out tonight in San Francisco. The consensus is that there’s only going to be one Apple event this fall, and it’s tomorrow. So if there’s an iPad Pro, it’s coming tomorrow, no matter how much or how little sense that makes.
Gruber even admitted he was wrong for his earlier prediction in the post title, “Or: pretty sure I was wrong.” So let’s see in a few hours if there will be any iPad Pros coming this fall. Make sure to tune in for coverage of any new Apple product update starting at 10am PDT, 1pm EDT.

Just because the iPads were announced during this event doesn't mean that there won't be an October event. They will likely announce the 5C successor and the AppleTV streaming service later this year. Considering how close they were rumored to making it into the September event, it's likely that they bumped the iPads up when those weren't ready.
