  • JP Morgan: A New Apple TV with Gaming Functionality Would Drive 24M Sales in 2016

According to JP Morgan, a revamped Apple TV with its own App Store downloads could help Apple enter a $35-billion-per-year gaming market and adding roughly 3.3% to the company’s 2016 earnings per share. Analyst Rod Hall issued a note to investors recently sharing his own expectations into Apple’s upcoming event. In the note he stated that he believes Apple could sell roughly 24 million units of a revamped Apple TV in 2016, especially with the added new gaming support.

The device could potentially be a meaningful addition to Apple’s bottom line with the additional potential revenue from the sale of App Store content and an anticipated streaming TV service. As part of the recent estimates, every 5% share Apple can carve out of the $35 billion console gaming market would add roughly 2% to his annual earnings per share forecast. He wrote the following regarding the matter:

We believe that the combination of graphics capability and an app store in the product could be disruptive for existing console players and positive for game (developers).
In addition to the new Apple TV, the upcoming event, which is dubbed “Hey Siri, give us a hint” is widely expected to also showcase the company’s next-gen iPhones which are being informally known as the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. Although some on Wall Street appear to be concerned that Apple may not be able to continue growing sales for its handsets, Hall doesn’t have the same expectations. According to him, Apple “should have little trouble” seeing its iPhone sales grow with his forecast calling for sales to be up 7.9% over the next year.

Along with the Apple TV and a potential new iPhone, the Cupertino California company may also debut a so-called “iPad Pro as well. That being said, this is all rumors as of right now, we’ll just have to wait a little bit longer for more concrete information.

What do you think of these predictions?
