  • Next Year's iPhone 7 Rumored to Rival Thinness of Current Generation iPod Touch

Apple seems to enjoy making things super thin. The company brings out an even thinner design with every redesigned iPhone that launches every two years, and it's being suggested that next year's iPhone 7 will be no different despite the bendgate issues that plagued the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo now believes Apple is on the path to making an iPhone 7 that rivals the thinness of the current generation of iPod touch, which is around 6.1mm. The iPhone 7 could be anywhere between 6.0 and 6.5mm thick, as Kuo suggests, making it thinner than the current iPhone 6 at 6.9mm thick and the iPhone 6 Plus at 7.1mm thick.

We've learned that Apple is planning to move the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus handsets to a much stronger 7000 series aluminum with certain places of the housing beefed up for good measure, which will add up to double the strength to the housing that we've seen with the current generation iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, but with an even slimmer housing for the iPhone 7, this could significantly reduce the housing's structural integrity despite all the improvements we'll see in the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus this year.

Moreover, unless Apple has some kind of new battery technology to show off or a new way to packing all the hardware into a smaller volume area, making the iPhone 7 yet slimmer than current-generation iPhones means there will be less space to pack the battery capacity that consumers beg for.

Kuo also notes that despite the fact Apple may have received samples of glass-to-glass displays, the company is still likely to continue using its in-cell display technology that they've been using in all current iPhones starting with the iPhone 5 and later. This suggestion also implies that the next generation iPhone likely won't have a 4K display as it has been rumored to receive.

We will learn more about the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus at this week's September 9th special event, but there is still plenty of time before Apple comes close to unveiling the iPhone 7 next year.

Thanks for the heads up. I WAS going to get the 6s (I have a 6) but Im getting a little tired of this. Lets see in 7 years I've had the 1st iPhone the iPhone 3 the 3G the 4 the 4s the 5s and now the 6. So I'm going to skip the 6s and wait for the 7. WOW I just realized thats a new iPhone a year!! Thats a lot of money for phones. And I've only had 3 iPads. 1st, 2ond, and now Air and that's been great. Why so many phones :-( And lets not forget my 1 Mac Book Pro..... OH TO BE APPLE $$$$$

Please Apple, we don't need any thinner unless its components only. Keep the same size and make the battery bigger to utilize any extra space.

The 5s is pretty thin. No need to make it even thinner, especially since screens are bigger. Bigger batteries, and more RAM! Not thinner. Thinner is not always better.

instead of focusing on giving us SuperOLED for screen, stupid Apple only cares to give us thinner phones which nobody wants.

I love how they are purposely discouraging me from buying the 6s.. thanks because it seems like the 6s doesn't seem worth it anyways..

I've said this till I'm blue in the face. Apple only cares about looks and what they can bring to the table first. If it could be a 1/100 mm thick and only last 2 hours, they'd do it!

Question, does anyone here have the 6 Plus? How long does the battery on that device last you?

I honestly think now this will be the first year I don't upgrade my device. I'm happy with 64gb 6 Plus and the battery life is awesome. Plus I have it customized with my favorite tweaks and I'm not giving up my jailbreak until one for iOS 9 is out. I hate how thin the 6 and 6 Plus is and I'm always searching for a big case to make my phone thicker. I hate thin phones but the upgrade from the 5s to 6 and then 6 Plus was a must. If they get too much thinner I won't be upgrading but keeping my 6 Plus as long as it keeps working and getting upgrades.

I have a 5s, and more than likely am upgrading to the 6s Plus, even though it's bigger. I most definitely want the most battery possible.

My sister just showed me her new iPod touch and it's thin. I really hope Apple don't make the iPhone 7 as thin as this. The 6 and 6 Plus are thin enough.

It is called THICKNESS, not thinness... I understand companies using it for publicity, but for a reporting site to use this term is plainly stupid.

Yes, that does. I get up at 5, and I am at work by 6:30, and use my phone extensively throughout the day for work, and then around 5 when I get home I play around a little throughout the evening until I go to bed. I usually have to charge my phone once or twice before bed, as the shop at work has terrible reception inside. Walk outside, great reception. Another reason I am wanting a better battery to not have to worry about charging it at work.

24 hrs on heavy usage (I dont do facebook). Only do twitter, instagram, whatsapp, linkedin, google maps, etc.
      48 hrs on lite usage.

The best part is that when it hits 20% in red, I don't even worry about finding a charger. It lasts 4-5 hours from 20 to 5%.
