  • Apple Adds Apple Pay Support for 18 New Banks and Card Issuers

Apple Pay is Apple's premier NFC payment service that works with the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, and Apple Watch, allowing users to make payments at retailers via Apple Pay-compatible NFC terminals with their credit and debit cards. At a steady rate, Apple Pay has been growing and gaining adoption not only from retailers, but also from banks and card issuers, giving even more Apple device users the ability to take advantage of Apple Pay.

On Wednesday, Apple Pay has received support for an additional 18 banks and card issuers ahead of the September 9th special event. The list of new supporters includes the following:

    • AltaOne Federal Credit Union
    • American Bank of Commerce
    • Capital Bank, N.A.
    • Cardinal Community Credit Union
    • Del-One Federal Credit Union
    • Enterprise Bank and Trust Co.
    • Envision Credit Union
    • First Commonwealth Bank
    • First National Bank and Trust
    • First South Financial Credit Union
    • FirstMerit Bank
    • Fort Worth City Credit Union
    • Leominster Credit Union
    • Magnolia Federal Credit Union
    • Monticello Banking Company
    • Northfield Bank
    • Southern States Bank
    • Spire Credit Union

Come September 9th, Apple will announce an official release date for iOS 9 and watch OS 2, both of which will give new capabilities to Apple Pay on the iPhone and Apple Watch. Apple Pay will gain support for even more banks and card issuers, including the highly-anticipated Discover Card, and will also gain support for loyalty cards so that you can keep track of your favorite loyalty cards without bringing the actual pieces of plastic with you, such as one you may get from Dunkin' Donuts (DD Perks).

For a full list of supported banks and card issuers, you can head over to Apple's Web site at this link to learn more about participating banks and card issuers.

I'll be thrilled with Chase Mastercard adds it, and everytime I see an Apple Pay blog post, I think "Discover" is going to be in this one. It's Sept, and I'm ready to add my Discover Card!
