  • Instagram Releases iOS Update With Support for Portrait and Landscape Photos

Instagram has announced a big update for its iOS application on Thursday that will improve the photo-sharing experience by implementing a highly-requested feature.

With support for portrait and landscape photographs, Instagram will no longer force you to share square photographs. As you would expect, the application will still let you add filters and effects to photographs before you share them, but now you won't have to crop out the important details on the edge of a photograph to get that square look that Instagram has standardized over the entire course of its existence.

It turns out that nearly one in five photos or videos people post arenít in the square format, and we know that it hasnít been easy to share this type of content on Instagram: friends get cut out of group shots, the subject of your video feels cramped and you canít capture the Golden Gate Bridge from end to end.

Now, when choosing a photo or video, you can tap the format icon to adjust the orientation to portrait or landscape instead of square. Once you share the photo, the full-sized version of it will appear to all of your followers in feed in a beautiful, natural way. To keep the clean feel of your profile grid, your post will appear there as a center-cropped square.
Version 7.5 of Instagram is now available free of cost in the App Store at this link, but if you already have the application installed, then you can just visit the Updates tab in the App Store to grab the update for free.
