  • Apple TV Drops One Spot in US Streaming Device Market Sales

According to Parks Associates, new data has revealed that the most popular streaming media device is the Roku. This information is based on 2014 sales and it was noted that the Apple TV dropped one spot from 2013, slipping from the third spot to the fourth. The Roku apparently takes up 34% of the streaming media device market and Google’s Chromecast accounts for 23%. As for Apple’s previous third spot, Amazon’s Fire TV Stick and Fire TV have taken the spot.

Parks Associates noted that the Roku, Chromecast, Apple TV, and Amazon devices added together equate to 86% of streaming media device sales. However, they also stated that only approximately 20% of U.S. households use the device on a regular basis even through they own one. The most used streaming device is the Roku with 37% of households using it regularly, then comes the Google Chromecast with 19% of households using it regularly, the Apple TV comes next with 17%, and Amazon devices come last with 14%.

A new Apple TV is expected to roll out soon, but nothing has been confirmed. However, the new streaming device has been said to have a new software, hardware, and more.
