  • Jailbreakers: Now is A Good Time to Get to iOS 8.4 if You're Not Already There

On Thursday, Apple released iOS 8.4.1 with a variety of improvements for Apple Music and security improvements, and for jailbreakers, it's a sad day because iOS 8.4.1 closes the exploits used by the TaiG jailbreak tool that was released to jailbreak iOS 8.1.3-8.4.

Fortunately, Apple is still signing iOS 8.4 right now, so if you upgraded to iOS 8.4.1 by mistake, or you're at an earlier version of iOS, then you can still get to iOS 8.4 for the time being.

There are a few reasons you might want to get onto iOS 8.4 while you still can, and in this post, we'll share why for those of you that are on an earlier version of iOS 8.

    1. iOS 8.4 is the latest jailbreakable firmware

Because iOS 8.4 is the latest jailbreakable firmware, you can bet that most of the iOS developers out there making jailbreak tweaks are running it and testing their jailbreak tweaks on it. There have been some important changes made from iOS 8.3 to iOS 8.4, namely the Music application, which means that tweaks built for iOS 8.4 may not work on iOS 8.3, so you could be missing out on great new jailbreak tweaks. For this reason, we recommend updating so that you're up to speed with the rest of the jailbreak community and get to experience as great of a jailbreak experience as possible.

    2. iOS 8.4 has Apple Music and Beats 1

Unlike iOS 8.1.3-8.3, iOS 8.4 actually includes the redesigned Music application that offers Apple's premier music-streaming service that the company is calling Apple Music; it also offers a radio-like service that Apple calls Beats 1. You won't get to enjoy these music services if you're on a firmware pre-iOS 8.4, so if you like music and ever had the intention of using Apple Music, then you should upgrade to iOS 8.4 as soon as possible so that you can have both Apple Music and your jailbreak (have your cake and eat it too).

    3. iOS 8.4 is faster and more secure than earlier versions of iOS 8

Apple has implemented most of its latest patches for security, speed, and stability in iOS 8.4 when compared to a firmware like iOS 8.0 or iOS 8.1.3. With that being said, we recommend installing iOS 8.4 as soon as possible so that you're not vulnerable to malware, and so that you experience the most stable iOS experience that you can. iOS 8.4 makes a stable jailbroken device as long as you follow our guide on how to do it properly.

    4. Cydia Impactor

We can't thank Saurik enough for creating a tool called Cydia Impactor. With this tool, you'll be able to put your iOS device back to stock iOS 8.4 whenever you want to, and re-jailbreak to have a fresh installation of Cydia and your favorite jailbreak tweaks whenever you want to. With that being said, who wants to restore back to an old version of iOS that lacks features and fixes? It's optimal that you can start fresh at the latest jailbreakable firmware so that you have all of the best jailbreak tweak compatibilities, security patches, and performance improvements.

    5. You don't have a long time to make up your mind

Apple typically closes the downgrading window within a week of releasing a new firmware, so you don't have forever to get to iOS 8.4. With all of the advice pointing in the direction of getting to iOS 8.4, and that little voice in the back of your head telling you that it's a good idea, you should just go ahead with the jump and be done with it. Once Apple closes the signing window for iOS 8.4, you'll either have to stay where you are at an outdated iOS version, lacking awesome features, or you'll be forced to upgrade to a non-jailbreakable iOS 8.4.1.

Will you be jumping ship, or leaving your anchor right where it is?

OMG I'm staying at 8.3! For many of us 8.4 is a Music disaster. This is by no means the no-brainer upgrade Apple wants you to think it is. I'm not willing to give up any of this:

I did a fresh restore of 8.4 had to end up upgrading iTunes to 12.2.2, and now jail breaking has been a nightmare. I keep getting the error code 1101. I've downgraded iTunes to 12.0.1, 12.2.1 and I still keep getting the error. I'm so frustrated that I'm thinking of going to iOS 9 beta and stay there.

This may help with the 1101 error.

Don't care for the new music crap Apple has pushed out, staying on 8.3 for now.
