  • Purported iPhone 6s Benchmark Reveals Disappointing 1 GB of RAM

A purported Geekbench benchmark of Apple's next-generation iPhone, the iPhone 6s, appears to have surfaced. Geekbench is commonly used as the platform to reveal performance on Apple's new iPhones as they are released, so although it's a good test, the credibility of the screenshot is what is actually in question.

As noted by BGR Thursday morning, this screenshot shows some disappointing results. Despite all of the rumors and reports that Apple would be doubling the amount of RAM in the next-generation iPhone, this screenshot reveals that the A9-powered iPhone 6s may only come with 1GB of RAM, just like the current-generation iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

The screenshot, originally shared by Ringer Blue Men, correctly identifies the iPhone 6s as the iPhone8,2 and displays an A9 processor running at 2.0GHz, although its credibility is still in the air because this information would have been easy to manipulate with photo manipulation software like Photoshop.

Many high-profile Apple analysts still believe the next generation iPhone will come with 2GB of RAM to help tame the features of the handset and give the user a better experience, especially when browsing the Web with multiple tabs at once. It would seem we just have to wait until this September to find out.

If this is true I definitely will not be upgrading until iPhone 7.

I'm tired of all my apps constantly closing and their Dynamic RAM working overtime to keep the SB from crashing! I want the frigging performance and features that I paid for in an Apple phone. This would be total BS unless they've figured out how to better manage RAM!

I'm calling BS!!! I'll believe it when Apple is on stage and says here it is. When someone has it hand and runs the test Ina video. Till then? It's rumor!

It's only disappointing if you have applications that are out of control memory hogs. Who's iPhone is it that runs horrendously slow due to not having enough memory exactly?

We use it! Apparently you just look at yours in the off position. I jailbreak to theme every aspect of it, as I hate the look of the UI.

I use up a lot of space on my 64gb 6+, with apps, music, pictures and all my tweaks. I probably have 10-15gb left over, so the 2gb of ram would help.

Your mixing RAM and storage memory. They are 2 completely different things.

Apple should have put 2gb in the iPhone 6. They'd be making a big mistake to leave the ram as is again with the 6s. I don't think they will make that mistake.

Hate Apple for giving us 1gb of ram only. It runs fine for non-jailbroken folks, but for us jailbroken it's a nightmare

4gb ram in the new note 5 and edge+ apparently.

So u want apple to add more ram so u can jailbreak it and install memory intensive themes? Please tell me I understood you incorrectly.

I'm actually surprised anyone would think Apple would give that kind of upgrade in their "S" offering. That's a "new model" buy me now option.

While it's very disappointing.... Apple's rate of keeping up with the latest hardware trends, be it the mid-2015 MBP or the alleged 6S/6S+ specs, one has to agree that Apple does a very good job of optimizing their devices. Sure, there are bugs which they take 2-3 months to resolve, but believe me, Apple is wayy better than Android or Windows devices.
The thing I hate about Apple is that they probably have lined up devices for the next 5-10 years and won't give us loyal consumers the latest hardware.
Example... mid-2015 MBP which has an ancient AMD 370M card that is at par with 2012/2013 GPUs (750M)... and the disappointing Haswell processors that came along with it at such a high price point! The least they could have done was to provide at least a nVidia 970M or a ATI 390M along with broadwell CPUs. Apple is slowly lagging behind in keeping up with the latest hardware components.

      Lagging behind who, exactly?

Perhaps all those other PC vendors who are losing money and losing market share?

Maybe all those other phone manufacturers who make negative profits?

Running a successful and massively profitable is about much more than having the latest possible spec in every piece of hardware. There are many concerns - from supply chain to driver support, from profit margin to support costs.

But yeah, Apple is totally lagging behind...

Jailbreaking isn't the only thing that would benefit from more Ram. Being able to open more than 3/4 apps at a time without iOS killing other backgrounded apps would be great.
