  • Apple Music Reportedly Hits Over 10 Million Subscribers in Roughly Four Weeks

According to sources connected to major music labels that provided the supposed adoption numbers to HITS Daily Double, Apple Music has reeled in roughly 10 million subscribers on the iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch and iTunes. The swift and substantial is surprising even for Apple. Furthermore, the data comes directly from Cupertino, which is sharing the streaming statistics internally with its content owners.

The information still needs to be taken with a grain of salt as the site calls its main news section the “Rumor Mill” but 10 million subscribers in four weeks is within the realm of possibility for Apple’s mammoth installed customer base.

Apple CEO Tim Cook backed up the recent claims just last week during the company’s third quarter conference call, telling investors that “millions and millions” have signed up for the three month trial that the company offered for its Apple Music service. What we need to wait for is whether the trial users will make the jump to a paid single or family tier, or alternatively discontinue the service altogether.

This number is of course often compared to competing streaming services such as Spotify, which boast roughly 20 million paying subscribers. Apple still seems to have a ways to go before reaching the numbers its competitors such as Spotify (75 million total active users) or Pandora (79.4 million total active users) are touting. Unlike those services though which include metrics for free-to-stream tiers, Apple Music is completely based on a subscription model.

      Because it's free.

(Although I do plan to buy the family plan when my three-month trial is over.)

Yep, as a family of 5, it's only costing me $3/user/month. We'll see if the other services follow suit.

I haven't upgraded to 8.4 as I'm too lazy to re-install all my jail breaks. After I finally do, I'll probably switch over from Spotify.

When Apple releases 8.4.1 you'd better update then and fast!

Funny when people say "I'm ditching after the trial and keeping spotify." Why are you even using it then??

I plan on keeping the family plan after the trial. It's every bit as good as spotify for my needs, plus these extra benefits:

      - Integration with iTunes existing app
      - Download and add songs to my existing library.
      - Integration with Siri. I love being able to say "play top songs from 2010" and get a playlist served up.

Spotify's exercise-adapting playlist could have kept me, but it's a joke.

Can anyone elaborate on why they prefer Apple Music over Pandora? I haven't upgraded to iOS 8.4, so I'm still using [free] iTunes Radio and don't really understand the comparative benefits of Apple Music.

Lol yeah because it has a 3 month free trial. After that it'll reduce massively.

Because pandora is a '92 ford escort and apple music is a '16 Bentley.
