  • Apple to Vastly Augment Retail Presence in India

While MMi has previously reported on numerous occasions that Apple is eager to expand its retail footprint across India by opening multiple Apple Stores, new reports suggest that Apple is doing more -- much more -- than just opening more of its own stores to become more accessible to Indian consumers.

Reports out of India indicate that Apple is teaming up with hundreds of smaller stores and retailers for the purpose of making them authorized resellers of Apple products. This move would effectively give Apple the type of retail reach it needs inside one of the world's fastest growing mobile markets.

"As part of the first phase of the new Authorised Mobility Resellers (AMR) programme," sources tell NDTV Gadgets, "Apple is planning to open 500 stores at handpicked locations across 12 Indian cities. These stores will showcase Apple's mobility offerings, specifically the iPhone, iPad, and related third-party accessories."

Apple, of course, has no ownership of the stores but will leverage their presence to peddle new and older Apple products inside of a market that can't get enough of Apple and the products they bring to market.
