  • Best Buy Announces Plans to Begin Selling the Apple Watch on August 7th

Apple has held a very tight grip on its Apple Watch wearable tech since its launch earlier this year. So far, only Apple retail stores have been permitted to sell the device, but soon, Best Buy is going to become the first authorized reseller of Apple Watch units in stores.

Best Buy has announced in a press release that the company will begin carrying the Apple Watch in stores on August 7th. Customers will be able to walk in and purchase them directly through their local Best Buy, which will give further reach to potential customers who want to be able to walk into a local store to grab one rather than ordering online when an Apple retail store is nowhere close to them.

Starting Aug. 7, Best Buy will be the first national retailer, other than Apple Stores, where customers can buy the Apple Watch. It will begin to arrive in more than 100 Best Buy stores and will also be available on BestBuy.com. Another 200 of our stores will have the Apple Watch in time for holiday shopping.

“The Apple Watch is an important addition to an emerging product category, and we know our customers want it,” said Jason Bonfig, senior category officer at Best Buy. “We are excited to bring Apple Watch to more consumers, especially with the holidays coming up.”

Our customers will be able to see, try and buy 16 Apple Watch models – including Sport and Watch models in both 38mm and 42mm sizes – and nearly 50 accessories, including watch bands, screen shields, stands, chargers and more.

You can visit BestBuy.com in the coming days for more information, including which stores will have the Apple Watch, how to accessorize your new device, and more.
Despite the announcement, it's noted that Best Buy will be limited in the types of Apple Watches it's allowed to carry. For example, the store will be limited to Apple Watch Sport and Apple Watch models and not have the Apple Watch Edition in stock; there may be further bottlenecks depending on customizations that customers want in watch bands.

Fortunately, the announcement also tells us that Best Buy will carry various third-party accessories for the device, as well as Apple-branded accessories to go along with it. This will give customers a nice selection of accessories to beef up their Apple Watch experience.

A month before Apple's annual iPhone event? This is obviously an attempt to boost apple watch sales so Apple can "wow" everyone with how popular the apple watch is, just before announcing the Apple Watch 2. And dropping the price of Apple Watch....

The sales have been great. A lot of people like me don't live near Apple stores so I have yet to see one in person or try one on. Not to mention rumors are the apple watch is only getting more colors but we'll see. I doubt they'll drop the price but we'll see.

Didn't they post over a billion in sales? That's a clear indication it's a success. At least compared to the competition
