  • Key Apple Supplier LG Display Gearing Up for Big Production Run

In what represents more solid evidence that Apple is poised to continue counting on familiar production and manufacturing partners for future product releases and refreshes, LG Display is reportedly gearing up to accommodate added output demands.

Reuters is reporting Thursday that LG Display is ready to commit $1 billion to build a fourth "organic light-emitting diode (OLED) display factory," a move that the report suggests affirms the company's long-term focus on the next-gen tech.

LG, the world's largest maker of liquid crystal displays (LCD), likely believes a fourth such plant will be essential to continue meeting the production demands incumbent upon them thanks to partners like Apple (LG is thought to provide displays for a wide variety of Apple products, including Apple Watch).

"LG Display's investment will help pioneer future display technologies such as foldable displays and large-size auto displays," a statement to the press from LG Display reads.
