  • Apple and Samsung Remain Largest Smartphone Sellers while Chinese Brands Make Inroads

According to recently released data, Apple and Samsung continue to remain the two largest sellers of smartphones around the world in the second quarter while the Chinese brands such as Huawei and Xiaomi continue to make inroads. Samsung ended up taking 26.8% of the market in the second quarter while Apple dipped slightly from 20.5% in the first quarter to 16.4% in the second. It should be noted that Apple’s number still represents an impressive showing for the company in what is typically a slow period.

The Cupertino California company’s share remains more than double that of its closest competitor which in this case is Huawei, which snagged 7.6%, even as the Chinese handset manufacturer rides a surge in popularity. Xiaomi, often referred to as the Apple copycat, ended up leapfrogging South Korea’s LG to take fourth place with 5.9% of the market, mainly due to the lackluster performance of LG’s latest G4 flagship.

Overall, the growth in the smartphone market continues to slow down, inching just 1.9% in the second quarter. This weak increase is being attributed to an increasingly saturated market and also because of Apple and Samsung’s refresh cycles, which push many consumers to wait until the third calendar quarter of each year to before they purchase upgraded devices.

Apple have 200 billion dollars in the bank. That's shows the scale of which they have fleeced their customers.
