  • Instagram's Desktop Web Site Now Lets You Perform Searches

Instagram appears to have beefed up its desktop Web site on Monday with new functionality. The desktop Web site has been around for some time, allowing users to log in, view their own profiles and the profiles of users they follow on the social network.

For the first time on Monday, the social network is allowing users to search the social network from the desktop Web site, suggesting major improvements are coming for non-mobile users. Although it seemed like a no-brainer to include this feature from the beginning, it wasn't necessarily in the company's best interest at the time since they were trying to build a strong mobile user base.

The new search bar appears at the top center of the Web site, as shown above, and allows users to search for users and trending hashtags. Clicking on any of the search results takes you to the page you clicked on.

You can test the feature out right now at Instagram.com on your favorite desktop Web browser.
