  • Apple Releases a Mac Mini EFI Update to Help Resolve an Issue with USB Keyboards

Apple recently released an EFI update for Mac mini which addressed an issue that could in some cases prevent a USB keyboard from being recognized when waking from sleep mode. As mentioned in the recent release notes, EFI firmware version 1.8 specifically targets late 2012 Mac mini models though other iterations may be affected by the keyboard bug.

For those of you who didnít know, aside from a few firmware updates, Apple has generally left the current Mac mini design untouched for several years. Back in 2014, the company issued a slight specification bump with new-generation Intel Core processors and 802.11ac Wi-Fi capabilities as well as a price cut to $499. Aside from this update, Apple seems to have put the Mac mini on the back burner.

With everything said and done, the Mac mini does seem to have a niche following considering the unitís size-to-power ratio, flexibility and sleek design. Many users who purchase the Mac mini tend to use it as a media server as part of their home entertainment system.

The recent EFI firmware update version 1.8 clocks in at 4.8 MB and can be downloaded via Software Update or directly from Appleís website.
