  • Apple Refreshes iPod Touch With Hardware Bump, New Colors, Refreshes Shuffle & Nano

This morning, Apple's online store went offline ahead of an expected Web site refresh that came with a wide variety of iPod refreshes for the company's entire iPod lineup. This means that the iPod touch, iPod shuffle, and iPod nano all come in a variety of new colors, and the iPod touch has been given some significant hardware bumps.

The color offerings that Apple now offers online for the new iPods include:

    • Space gray
    • Silver
    • Gold
    • Pink
    • Blue
    • Product Red

As for the iPod touch, the device now has a powerful and zippy A8 processor rather than the dated A5 processor that the previous generation had. The A5 processor was introduced in 2011, while the A8 chip is a much more modern 2014 chip with a better architecture and improvements to power and efficiency.

CUPERTINO, California — July 15, 2015 — Apple® today introduced the best iPod touch® yet and unveiled a new lineup of colors for all iPod® models, including space gray, silver, gold, pink and blue. The ultra-portable iPod touch features a new 8 megapixel iSight® camera for beautiful photos, an improved FaceTime® HD camera for even better selfies, the Apple-designed A8 chip with 10 times faster graphics performance for a more immersive gaming experience, and even better fitness tracking with the M8 motion coprocessor. With the newly launched Apple Music™ service, members can enjoy playlists curated by the most talented music experts from around the world, stay in-the-know on music culture with a global 24/7 broadcast on Beats 1℠ radio, and comment on or like backstage photos and videos shared directly by their favorite artists on Connect.
Moreover, the iPod touch now comes with a 128 GB storage option, an improved 8 megapixel camera that replaces the dated 5 megapixel camera from the previous model, and a high definition front-facing FaceTime camera with improved photo quality over the previous generation.

The new specs mean that new iPod owners will have better performance when playing mobile games, using software, and storing their large song libraries. But for many, Apple Music will be the way to go as the new iPod touch can also run iOS 8.4.

      How much RAM? Still 512MB?

I'm a huge fan of the iPod Touch, but Apple treats it like the child they make sleep in the basement with the rats. Give it some love. At least give it a GPS chip so it's useful even when you leave your house. I have an iPhone 6 but I would love to have an iPod or iPad Mini with GPS to leave in my car.

Seems likely it will have 1GB of RAM, like all A8 devices.
