  • Apple Updates its Online Store with "Tested to the Limit" Campaign

Apple recently updated its online Apple Store with a new section that describes’ the Cupertino California company’s approach to testing and approving the third-party cases that it stocks for the iPhone and iPad. The new “Apple Tested Cases” page reads the following to convey the messaging:

Each case design for iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch has to go through a series of tests before it reaches the Apple Store. So you can be sure the case you buy is a perfect match for your iOS device.
This section specifically touts five testing areas which consist of the following: acoustics, camera, cellular, design, sensors and wireless. The Cupertino California company says that design encompasses both fit-and-finish, ensuring that the ports and jacks continue to remain accessible while the durability, which is measured with a series of drop tests. Camera openings are tested to ensure that they don’t interfere with the camera’s field of view or photo quality. Apple also checks that cases don’t interfere with the quality and volume of speakers and the sensitivity of microphones or cause problems with various sensors and wireless communication systems.

Although Apple never made its Apple Store stocking requirements public, it has been mentioned that the company is known to be strict on suppliers to deliver products that meet with its expectations, which in many cases results in custom Apple Store-exclusive variants. This coupled with recent reports that Apple is planning to roll out new co-designed packaging for third-party accessories, the recent move seems to point toward a continued expansion of this new “premium feel” that Apple’s retail efforts seem to be moving towards while under Angela Ahrendts.

What about temperature? Many cases insulate too well and others add heat (battery cases).
