  • Next Generation iPhone to Double LTE Performance While Improving Power Efficiency?

Just yesterday, images of what appear to be a leaked iPhone 6s/6s Plus case show very minor changes over the existing iPhone 6/6 Plus, but that's not to say that the internals won't see improvements, as is the case with most iPhone upgrades.

We also know from various reports that Apple could be implementing Force Touch into its next generation iPhone, a feature that shipped with the Apple Watch and various Mac notebooks.

A new report on Wednesday suggests that the next generation iPhone models, which have been dubbed the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, may sport double the 4G LTE performance, all while improving the efficiency and power consumption of the wireless chip.

9to5Mac has gotten their hands on what appears to be pictures of the next-generation logic board, which appears to sport Qualcomm’s MDM9635M chip, which is also known as the '9X35' Gobi modem platform. What can be expected from this chip are maximum theoretical download speeds of about 300 Mb/s, which are double what the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are capable of right now. These are of course, theoretical speeds, and carriers will be the bottleneck of such speeds.

In terms of efficiency, this chip is expected to improve battery life too, which could give Apple an edge in improving its battery life on future devices. After all, wireless communications are one of the most power-hungry things a mobile device can perform. The upcoming iOS 9 operating system is also expected to add battery efficiency, which would stack well with this new chip.

Ok double LTE, but our crappy service has to support it too right?

Sadly, theoretical speeds are not real life speeds. I believe in our current state our iPhones are supposed to reach theoretical speeds of somewhere around 100 Mbps.....I don't get anywhere near that on verizon....soooo would it really make a difference? Battery life would be the only plus.

Unlimited plans still exist if you have T-Mobile. Switched from AT&T and I'm loving it!

It's a damn shame Apple can't make the iPhone a couple mm's thicker which would make it easier to handle as well as double or triple the battery life. SMDH!
