  • Next-Generation iPhones With Force Touch Go Into Production

According to a new report from Bloomberg, Apple has already begun production on its next generation iPhone (dubbed the iPhone 6s/6s Plus) equipped with Force Touch. Force Touch is a feature enabled on the company’s latest Apple Watch device, which measures the amount of force being applied from a user's finger and then turns it into new gestures. It was noted that the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus will remain 4.7-inches and 5.5-inches like the company’s current iPhone 6 lineup. However, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo from KGI Securities has noted that with Force Touch, the devices could possibly be 0.2mm thicker.

    Bloomberg notes:

Apple Inc. has started early production of new iPhone models with a feature called Force Touch, which senses how hard users are pressing down on a screen, people with knowledge of the matter said.

Its newest iPhones, in the same 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch versions as the current iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus devices, will have a similar exterior design, the people said. Volume manufacturing is scheduled to ramp up as soon as next month, they said.
It was noted that due to the design of the new iPhone being practically the same as the current one, the process for manufacturers should be a smooth transitioning one. But like any new technology, the addition of Force Touch could still affect production volume and cause production delays. The new device is expected to launch in September of this year and could possibly have a new rose color option, as well has an improved camera, and feature 7000 series aluminum.

Hopefully that’s a typo and the device is 2mm thicker to remove that ugly camera bump. If not, from where I’m sitting it’s no sale.

Excited for the forced touch feature. I like it on my Apple Watch already.

I may sell my 6 and keep my 6+. The specs of the 6s Plus and look will determine if I upgrade or not.

I probably will. It's why I went with Verizon's Edge plan. Forcetouch, better camera, faster more efficient CPU (hopefully). Also, I like the forthcoming features of iOS 9. I will be very disappointed if Taig crew can't JB iOS 9 quickly, but not a deal breaker. Just have to be one of the uncool kids for a while again.

Is this really what all the hype is about? Can someone explain to me why having a force touch screen is so awesome?

Guess I am not excited as of yet because I do not understand what I have been missing out on by NOT having a force touch screen with my 5s.

New hardware specs are nothing special. That is to be expected with any technology when it's a "newer" model.

There’s just something about force touch that is incredibly useful and intuitive. After using it on my watch I’ll try to do it on my phone because it just makes sense to do. It’s not “cool” per se, but it’s so incredibly intuitive.

I also don't understand what all the fuss is about. If Force-Touch is really an essential, can't-live-without-it feature, how are any Force-Touch features going to work on older iDevices that don't have Force-Touch? Will those options or hidden menu options just be unavailable to older devices, forcing us all to upgrade?!

I'll probably sell my current 6+ and get a new 6. While I like the big screen, I realize now I would have been happier with the 6. Definitely like the force touch addition as it is great on the watch.
