  • Clearing Up Some of the Confusion About Mobile Substrate Compatibility With iOS 8.3

The new iOS 8.1.3-8.3 jailbreak by TaiG was released Tuesday morning to the public, but many users are reporting bugginess. Moreover, itís still a very early jailbreak, which means that many Cydia packages arenít compatible yet.

Many jailbreakers are still waiting for Mobile Substrate (now known as Cydia Substrate) compatibility; this is the major dependency that most jailbreak tweaks use as the backbone for safety. When the tweak crashes your device it is Mobile Substrate that is actually protecting your device from damage.

Although it isnít Saurik that you should be waiting on. As pointed out by both Saurik and TaiG (Weibo) Tuesday evening, it is actually TaiG that needs to release an update for the TaiG jailbreak in order for Mobile Substrate to become fully compatible with the new jailbreak.

The first to note the problem this morning was i0n1c (Stefan Esser), a well-known security researcher that peeks his head into the jailbreak community from time-to-time with comments of his own. Esser says that a kernel patch on CS_RESTRICT would fix everything.

Once fixed, TaiG will most likely launch a Cydia package update, as well as an updated jailbreak tool so that those just jailbreaking will have the problem fixed out of the box.

Saurik has confirmed that the TaiG jailbreak team is working on the update and should have it released to the public soon. Until then, just sit tight. Thereís no reason you canít get your device prepared and jailbroken a while waiting for the patch, although if youíre concerned about the errors people seem to get while trying to jailbreak, just keep in mind that if you keep trying youíll nail it eventually.

Our guide on how to jailbreak iOS 8.1.3-8.3 with TaiG 2.0.0 for Windows is available here.

Sounds like you just need to restore and start over.

Did you update and not use a backup to restore?

The only reason I am willing to give up my current jailbreak is to use the watch... I sure hope the other guys issue is isolated to him.

For once, I'm in no hurry to go through the re-jailbreak process. And wait for tweaks to get updated. It's a vicious circle I know.

Yeah 8.3 isn't worth the trouble. Jailbreak is funky and then gotta wait for tweaks and all that jazz. I'd rather keep my almost flawless jailbroken 8.1.

Been waiting for a jailbreak so I can update and take my 6+ to the Apple Store to get looked at. My silent switch is malfunctioning...I'll switch to silent but the it'll go back and forth from silent and not silent
