  • Apple: 84% of iOS Devices Using the App Store Now Run iOS 8

Apple has updated its App Store Support page for developers on Tuesday to reflect on some new numbers relating to just how many of its iOS device users are now running iOS 8.

The number has updated to show that 84% of App Store users are now running iOS 8, which is currently apple's latest public mobile operating system, while 16% remain on iOS 7 and 2% remain on an earlier version of iOS.

Apple gets these numbers based off of the traffic that hits the App Store, so effectively, they are simply showing that 84% of App Store users are running the latest iOS firmware and not necessarily the whole installed base.

Apple noted at WWDC 2015 that iOS 8 has significantly out-paced the adoption of Android software updates on competing devices.

This Fall, the next iteration of iOS will hit the shelves. iOS 9 will bring further improvements to the stability and functionality of iOS 9 across all of Apple's devices; older and newer. Moreover, it will add additional battery life to make Apple's mobile devices last longer on a single charge; at WWDC 2015, Apple promised an additional hour of battery life.
