  • Best Buy Ramps Up Marketing of Apple Watch Competitor

On the heels of recent news that Apple has begun re-introducing various Apple Watch-competing wearable fitness trackers to the online Apple Store, some of Apple's most celebrated retail partners are also taking their eye off of Apple Watch to give competing offerings a fighting chance in this burgeoning wearables marketplace.

On Monday, Best Buy announced the start of preorders for Pebble Time, the latest smartwatch from Pebble. Priced competitively at $199, the Pebble Time is aiming to steal at least some thunder from Apple Watch, which has reportedly already sold well over two million units since its April launch.

Although we don't yet know when Pebble Time will reach Best Buy stores, it's clear that the devices are coming and will share the retail stage with Apple Watch. With its successful Kickstarter campaign already the stuff of tech legend, Pebble Time is obviously entering a market where consumers are eager to give this new device a try.

While it isn't clear how the surging number of rival smartwatches and wearables will slow Apple Watch's progress, today's news is just another reminder that Apple won't outright own the wearables space just by virtue of being in it. The fight for supremacy will, indeed, be real.

My Best Buy has the huge Samsung center right when you walk in and all of the Apple products (iPads, iPhones, and iPods) in the back far right of the store next to the car audio section. iPads are not on display next to the other 20 tablets, iPods are basically hidden, and the iPhone is not in the cell phone section either. Hell, they don't even sell Apple computers. If my Best Buy sold the Apple Watch you'd never know it.

Apple should do what they do best and pull the products out of the stores all together. I doubt very seriously it would hurt Apple sales. Best Buy's a crap store anyway.

Best Buy is my only electronics store. It may be bad, but itís the best some of us get.

I love my Pebble Steel and have no interest in the Apple watch... or Pebble Time for that matter.
