  • Apple Discontinues Sale of Original iPad Mini in Apple Stores and Online

The original iPad Mini, the 7.9-inch tablet that Apple introduced nearly three years ago, has officially vanished from the Apple Store on Friday. The device has been outdated for some time, sporting a slower A5 chip and non-retina display, but Apple kept it alive as an affordable solution for those that didn't want to bust out the dime for the newer models.

As first pointed out by 9to5Mac Friday morning, the device is no longer available for sale on the Web site, or in Apple Stores, but there are still refurbished options available starting at just $209, and these will surely disappear too when there are no more left to sell. Despite being outdated, they still carry an Apple warranty if bought through Apple's refurbished section.

Apple will be pushing their newer tablets on buyers, which have at least an A7 processor or better, as well as retina displays and 64-bit architectures. Available for sale on Apple's Web site now are the iPad Air 2, iPad Air, iPad mini 3, and Pad mini 2. By dropping another model of the iPad, it suggests Apple likely won't support it in the next iteration of iOS, but iOS 9 will, as we know from Apple's Web site.

The original iPad mini is still available from third-party retailers.
