  • New Report Claims Apple Has Sold Approximately 2.79 Million Apple Watch Devices

We reported just recently that Apple was beginning to catch up in production for the Apple Watch and that ship times have been improving drastically. Although no actual numbers were ever given on how many devices were sold, Apple did mention that they were satisfied with the numbers and sales. A research firm called Slice Intelligence also noted that Apple was earning big profits from the wearable device.

Reuters reported that Slice Intelligence data shows that Apple has already sold 2.79 million devices in the U.S., and it’s only been two months since the device has been released. The digital commerce research firm stated that approximately 1 million Apple Watch devices were sold through preorders alone. The report also noted that of the customers who purchased a smartwatch, approximately 17% spent hundreds of dollar more on extra bands.

Apparently the Cupertino-based company’s black Sport Band was the most popular, whether it was configured with the Apple Watch during purchase or purchased after. In second place was the Milanese loop band. We’re not sure how accurate these numbers are as it was all based on tracked email receipts, but we would assume it is somewhere around that number.

It's annoying Apple isn't releasing numbers, but I could understand why. Even if Apple has sold that many to date, or a million on day 1, people would be quick to compare with iPhone sales and look at it as a failure. Or maybe Apple hasn't been able to sell as many due to production contraints and/or late getting the final product into production, but kept the planned release date.

Who knows. All we can really make a safe bet on is that they are selling plenty, making lots of money, and like selling as many, or more than Android watches based on their sales estimates.
