  • Big Apple Debut: Apple Getting Attention for New Upper East Side Store

Over the weekend, Apple opened its newest store in New York City and it managed to get lots of folks in the Big Apple talking. Just as many, however, also showed up to shop as the opening weekend saw enormous foot traffic, according to local press reports.

The store in question, which is located in the Upper East Side, boasts of more than a few, shall we say, unorthodox features, at least when it comes to Apple's familiar retail establishments.

Apple's newest Manhattan store, the building which it houses first opened nearly one century ago when it was used as a bank, still has some bank-like features, like the facility's very old vault. Humorously dubbed "iVault" in some media reports today, the space is now being used as a VIP-style showroom for Apple Watches, the high-end models of which are priced up to $17,000.

Although we don't know how much the building renovation cost Apple, this was no inexpensive effort. "The company also worked to renovate the space with 1920s-inspired chandeliers, the original paint color and Botticino marble floors and pilasters," CNET reports.
