  • Apple Announces Metal for Mac With Improvements to GPU Performance

Apple has announced Metal for Mac, bringing all of the power of improved graphics and GPU performance from iOS to Mac OS X. Metal for Mac will be included with Apple's New OS 10.11 X El Capitan operating system, which was just announced Monday morning at WWDC 2015.

Metal for Mac brings speeds nearly 2x faster for many graphics rendering and processing, and huge improvements to battery life.

Metal for Mac is an API allows applications running on OS X to take immediate advantage of the power of the GPU in Mac machines without sluggish software regulating the performance.

Moreover, Apple notes that Adobe is taking full advantage of Metal for Mac in its latest versions of unreleased photo-editing software. Metal for Mac brings huge improvements to professional photo and video-editing applications on OS X.

OS X El Capitan with Metal for Mac is out for developers in beta today, and will be out to the public this fall as a free upgrade.
