  • National Geographic Channel Released on Apple TV Prior to WWDC

With less than just one week to go before the WWDC event where speculation points toward the Apple TV being unveiled, the National Geographic Channel was recently released on the existing platform. Owners who have the second- and third-gen set top boxes will find the channel as part of their lineup automatically. The name of the channel has been stylized as “NatGeo TV,” which is the name for the National Geographic Channel’s free, next day access to full episodes.

The content that is currently available on the channel includes “Street Genius,” “The Big Picture with Kal Penn,” and “Wicked Tuna.” Nat Geo TV includes content from both the National Geographic Channel and Nat Geo Wild. Much like the other cable content that is available on the Apple TV, users need to have a valid subscription login. Participating TV providers currently include Comcast, AT&T, Time Warner, Verizon and Charter.

The channel comes just a few days before Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference keynote. There have been conflicting rumors of Apple possibly unveiling a new set-top box but we’ll have to just wait and see what the company ends up doing.
