  • Apple Reportedly Acquires Augmented Reality Firm

TechCrunch broke the news today that Apple has apparently acquired another company.

This time around, the acquired party is Metaio, an augmented reality startup that's been around for more than a decade.

A document obtained by the publication reveals a transfer of shares of the startup to Apple last week.

Of course, Apple won't come right out and confirm the acquisition. “Apple buys smaller technology companies from time to time, and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans,” is the response Apple provided today when asked about the purported deal.

That's code for: "We bought it aren't talking." But now that word is getting out, Metaio clients can finally relax.

"A source told TechCrunch that clients who use Metaio are 'flipping out' after seeing the shut down message on the website and not hearing a word from the company about what’s going on…until now," today's report reads.
