  • Apple Reportedly Upgrading Some 27'' Non-Retina iMac Orders to the New 5K Model

Some of the consumers who ended up ordering Appleís non-Retina 27-inch iMac ahead of the recent iMac lineup update have seen their orders automatically updated to the new, less expensive Retina 5K base model. The news comes from a Redditor who ended up sharing the information after having been notified of the upgrade by Apple via an email. For those of you who didnít know, the new $1,999 Retina 5K iMac replaces the older, top-end 27-inch version that was sold for the same price without a Retina-quality display.

The email message read the following regarding the matter:

You may not have heard, but we just announced the new iMac with Retina 5K display. Since your order has yet to ship, we automatically upgraded you to the new iMac with Retina 5K display.
The newest 5K iMac ships with Intelís 3.3-gigahertz quad-core i5 and a 1 terabyte hard drive that comes standard compared to the previous 3.4 gigahertz chip and 1 terabyte hard drive for the older model. The biggest difference between the two is the display, with the newer model touting the Retina display.

For those of you who didnít know, Apple ended up revealing its new iMac lineup just a few days ago where it introduced the new $1,999 model and ended up reducing the price for th standard high-end Retina 5K configuration by $200. The 15-inch MacBook Pro lineup was also refreshed with Force Touch trackpads, faster processors, better flash memory and a longer lasting memory.

Looks like a good deal if you have a use for that high res of a display, or just really want that high res and the disposable income.

I wish Apple would get right of the chin already.
