  • Apple Updates its Online Store and Includes the Apple Watch as Part of its Ecosystem

Apple recently updated its online storefront with new images and text regarding the so-called Continuity features that interconnect iOS, Mac and now the Apple Watch devices. The new feature highlight places an emphasis on the software integration across several major platforms, highlighting inter-device operability between the flagship iPhone, iPad, MacBook and Apple Watch products. More specifically, it was shown that Apple Watch owners can transfer calls, messages, emails and more to a paired iPhone.

The color scheme of the whole online store appears to be focused on the Apple Watch’s unique blue fluoroelastomer Sport Band coupled with a blue color scheme for the iPhone 6 and iPad Air 2 screens displaying ocean themed backgrounds.

Aside the focus on the new feature highlight and the color scheme, Apple also cleaned up the store’s layout to match other Apple.com product pages. For example, instead of setting off the iPhone, iPad and Mac into separate boxes, the new iteration of the site features large device images that appear to cascade from one product to the next. The text has been pared down to only device names and is executed in a thinner font compared to previous versions with the only exception being the Apple Watch, which appears to be using the same graphic done on Apple’s San Francisco typeface.

It has been mentioned several times that the Handoff feature was one that Apple touted as a core Apple Watch capability. Today’s Online Apple Store update appears to be one of the first times that the company’s recent device was included as an integral part of the company’s portable device ecosystem. We’ll have to see what changes Apple makes going forward as it continues to evolve its marketing efforts.
