  • LifeProof's FRĒ Power iPhone 6 Battery Case Now Available for Pre-order

LifeProof fans can rejoice Thursday afternoon, as the heavy-duty case company has finally made its LifeProof FRĒ Power case for the iPhone 6 available for pre-order.

The FRĒ model is waterproof, just like the Nüüd, but it includes a built-in 2600 mAh power supply to keep your iPhone 6 alive longer throughout the day. It's rated for drop protection at military standards (Military Standard 810G-516.6) and is rated IP68 waterproof; that's even better than the Apple Watch, which has survived rigorous water testing.

The FRĒ includes some features that will appeal to those skeptical of battery cases. For example, it has an auto-stop feature to stop charging your iPhone after it reaches 100% of battery capacity. On the back, you will see an LED light indicator that shows you just how much charge is remaining in the case. The case's battery is charged via a built-in micro-USB port.

Additionally, it works with the Touch ID sensor, includes a screen scratch protector, and includes camera lens technology that won't attract glare to your photographs. As you would expect from a waterproof case, all of the ports on the iPhone are covered with waterproof plugs that you can open when they are needed. When you're done, you can close the ports to resume waterproofing.

If you want to pre-order a LifeProof FRĒ, you can do so for $129.99 on LifeProof's Web site right now. It's available in black, white, and blue variations. At this point in time, it looks to only be available for the iPhone 6, and not the iPhone 6 Plus.

I was so excited, but as bad as the reviews are for the reg Lifeproof case on the 6, I was very disheartened. That was until Mophie decided to bring out a similar product. Hope it lives up to the Mophie name as it's probably going to be the one I get, but waiting for reviews on both.

Yet another fail. People that spent 100 more for the i6+ would buy this more then the reg i6. But maybe they will make the i6+

Lifeproof... These are the displays I see in Best Buy stores with the phone in a case drowned in a big cylinder of water...and the phones don't work.

Every review I've seen says the sound quality is terrible. People can't hear you on the other end and the output is not up to par.

      Thoughts?

Yes there is some sound degradation. My boyfriend and I both have iPhone and both are in life proofs. It isn't too terribly bad when phones are getting normal use but if I need to use speakerphone with him forget it. I can hear others on speaker phone slightly better but it is usually not loud enough for me to use as a hands free option in the car (which is mainly what I would need it for.

But I still feel having my phone protected from drops and water damage is worth the trade off.

Turning on the hearing aids option in settings helped for me regarding sound being more audible.

I tried that. It helped a tiny bit for phone calls where I hold the phone to my ear, but I think speaker phone is just a lost cause for me.

My ultimate opinion on the topic at hand would be that, for me, the life proof is a good case. I would consider purchasing this new case if I hadn't just bought the one I have. $40 price increase to have extended battery life isn't too shabby

There are two kinds of people in this world. Those that prefer form over function, and those that prefer function over form.

This is true, though there ARE drop proof cases that look good. I think it’s the waterproofing that looks bad to me. I certainly like the Fre better than the Nuud anyway. The Nuud is just outright ugly to me.

I'm the 3rd type of person, I prefer form and function equally...

It's really hard to combine the two. I wish more cases could actually look good and protect well.
