  • Apple Seeds iOS 8.4 Beta 3 to Developers for Testing

On Monday, Apple has seeded a new version of iOS 8.4 to developers for testing dubbed beta 3 with the build identifier of 12H4098c. The updated beta comes just two weeks after the seed of beta 2 to developers.

iOS 8.4 beta introduces a new re-designed Music application for iOS with all of the following new features:

The iOS 8.4 Beta includes an early preview of the the all-new Music app. With powerful features and an elegant new look, enjoying your music is easier than ever. This preview provides a sneak peek into what weíve been working on, and whatís to come ó the music is just getting started.

All-New Design. Music app has a beautiful new design that makes exploring your music collection easier and more fun. Personalize playlists by adding your own image and description. Enjoy stunning pictures of your favorite artists in the Artists view. Start playing an album right from the album list. The music you love is never more than a tap away.
Recently Added. Albums and playlists youíve recently added are now at the top of your library, making it effortless to find something new to play. Simply tap play on the artwork to listen.
Streamlined iTunes Radio. Discovering music with iTunes Radio is easier than ever. You can now quickly return to your favorite stations in Recently Played. Choose from a selection of hand-curated stations in Featured Stations, or start a new one from your favorite artist or song.
New MiniPlayer. With the new MiniPlayer, you can see whatís playing and control playback while browsing your music collection. To open Now Playing, just tap on the MiniPlayer.
Improved Now Playing. Now Playing has a stunning new design that showcases your album artwork the way it was meant to be. In addition, you can begin wirelessly streaming your music using AirPlay without leaving Now Playing.
Up Next. Itís now simple to find out which songs from your library will play next ó just tap the Up Next icon in Now Playing. You can even reorder, add, or skip songs whenever you like.
Global Search. You can now search from anywhere in the Music app ó just tap the magnifying glass. Search results are conveniently organized to help you quickly find that perfect song. You can even start an iTunes Radio station right from Search.
Developers will find the updated beta under the Software Update section of the iOS device's Settings application, where they will be prompted to update OTA (over the air). Alternatively, it is also possible to download the seed from Apple's online developer Web site and install it manually via iTunes.

The redesigned Music application likely has a lot to do with the upcoming music-streaming service that Apple wants to implement, and in turn, the company has been bullying many of the competing streaming companies, such as Spotify to try and end free-tier music streaming so that Apple would be the only one.

Beta 3 of iOS 8.4 kills more bugs in the firmware as we get closer to the official public release. WWDC 2015 takes place in less than a month from the time of this writing, so it's likely the release could coincide with WWDC 2015.

Is 8.4 just the music app or are there any other changes too?

Does anyone know what (if any) bugs were fixed between 2 and 3? The build number is rather small so I assume not much but it would be nice to know what may have been fixed.

This update seems to have somewhat fixed many of the issues with using iTunes Match.

I have a question about jailbreak in general: my friend has an iPhone 5s and wants to upgrade to IOS 8.1.2 even though apple is no longer signing it. Is that possible? Furthermore what exactly does it mean when apple no longer signs an iOS version?
My friend downloaded the iOS 8.1.2 restore .ipsw and wants to know if he can update to it and jailbreak from there. Thanks for the help!

Unfortunately thatís impossible. When you tell an iPhone to restore to a specific version, it checks apple servers to see if apple is still signing it. If that comes back positive, iTunes lets you restore. If it comes back negative iTunes will cancel the restore and request the newer version. Thatís a way simplified version, but basically thatís how it works.

How can the public release of iOS 8.4 coincide with WWDC? Apple will introduce iOS 9 at WWDC and will release iOS 9 beta 1 to Apple Developers on 8th June itself, just like Apple has been doing with the past WWDC events. Which means, iOS 8.4 has to be released way before 8th June. Am I missing something here?

Likely the iOS 9 beta and normal 8.4 will be released simultaneously.

Quite a bit, actually. Betas are betas... don't expect iOS 9 to be publicly available prior to the next phone launch (September) - unless they do something dramatic, like introduce that rumored iPad Pro this summer. Likelihood: minimal

      Things could change this year.
