  • Apple Watch Developer Headlining Speaker at 2015 Code Conference

It's rare for an Apple executive or department head to serve as a keynote speaker or presenter in any fashion at a conference or convention that isn't a formal Apple event.

But we have one such anomaly to report on Thursday. Not surprisingly, the Apple-approved conference in question is the 2015 Code Conference. The formal announcement came today from Walt Mossberg.

According to the venerable tech journalist, who has conducted some of the most memorable interviews over the years with Apple leaders like Steve Jobs and Tim Cook, this year's conference will welcome Jeff Williams, who serves as Apple’s senior vice president of operations (and plays a a key role in the development of Apple Watch).

"Few know that two years ago Cook tapped him to also manage the development of the Apple Watch, the first new product category the tech giant has entered in five years," Mossberg writes. "Williams is also the one driving the company’s health initiatives, including ResearchKit, Apple’s effort to bolster medical and health research."

The conference takes place May 26 to 28 in Rancho Palos Verdes, California. Other confirmed speakers -- to name a few -- include such heavyweights as: GM CEO Mary Barra; BuzzFeed’s CEO Jonah Peretti and editor-in-chief Ben Smith; Sprint CEO Marcelo Claure; GoPro CEO and founder Nick Woodman; Snapchat’s Evan Speigel; CBS CEO Les Moonves; Google business lead Omid Kordestani; Target CEO Brian Cornell; and Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren.

More speakers will be announced in the coming days, Mossberg says.
