  • LUNATIK Has Some Serious Protection Planned for the Apple Watch

LUNATIK has some serious protection coming for the Apple Watch. They call this case/wrist strap combination the LUNATIK EPIK Apple Watch Kit and it's about as extreme as you can get in Apple Watch protection.

The case and wrist strap combination will be hitting Kickstarter in the hear future so that those of you interested can help fuel the production. With that being said, it's still a relatively new idea and hasn't even begun the main production process yet.

First off, let us just say we love LUNATIK. We had the opportunity to grab a case from them for our iPhone 5 in the past and it was about the most solid tank of a case we've ever laid our hands on. We expect nothing less from the LUNATIK EPIK Apple Watch Kit.

You can see that the new upcoming case for Apple's new watch wraps around the enclosure to protect it from wrist bumps, which will prevent scuffs, scratches, dents, and much more. The product also comes with a special protection for the digital crown that can still rotate, protection for the side button, as well as mesh covering for the microphone. The heart rate sensor is not interfered with, as you can see below:

The wrist strap is screwed to the case with some hex screws, which resembles the screw-together design of the iPhone 5 case we reviewed.

Although it's a pretty tough-looking case, it doesn't add that much bulk to the Apple Watch. It would also be compatible with all models of the Apple Watch, whether it's a Sport, Apple Watch, or Edition, but we assume it's unlikely you would pay for the Apple Watch Edition just to cover up the gold enclosure with a case, so we're assuming only Apple Watch and Apple Watch Sport users would actually have any interest in this.

Notably, LUNATIK will only be making this case and wrist strap combination for the 42mm version of the Apple Watch and not the 38mm version; it's unknown if they will consider expanding later on. To learn more about the upcoming Apple Watch case and wrist strap from LUNATIK, you can visit their Web site at this link.

I find it funny so many are waiting on next gen. I don't expect much to change on the watch quickly. I'd be surprised to see a major refresh in less than 2 years, definitely not design changes. Maybe minor spec upgrades, slightly better battery life (but if not double, you're still charging every night).
That said, I'm excited for this case, I think the rugged exterior makes it look more like a regular watch

I was one of the many that funned the i4s case. I was going to find the i6 case but they turned their backs on the i6+. So they announced that they doing the apple watch case. So I was like I would love one. So they show the design. Looks good like all the other design but one major flaw. They only have old school bands. So if you only buy sport band models, you won't mind at al. But if you buy the steal bands then this is not for u. The bolt through holds the case good. But you lose a major feature. I wish they do the screws down like the i4/i5 case. So I looked and found one Amazon. Then the price I can see them looking at around 45-50 price mark. One I orders is 15 shipped and it will work 100% with all the bands Apple has designed. So I think they dropped the ball I would have bought their case but the band issue is to big

Yep, I got the same dock from Spigen. I had the LUNATIK case for my iPod Nano and it was solid and an awesome well built band, I expect this will be no different. Problem is this will easily be a $70-$100 case. maybe more

I would almost get this when it comes out, the inability to use the Apple watch bands is a big downside for me though...

I know the Lunatik wrist band might not have that pretty Apple bling effect to it, but since they were in the market for creating something that would protect the Apple Watch, I'm sure their focus was to create something that would last longer than the good-looking stuff. The actual case around the watch enclosure looks like the best part to me, but the wrist strap looks like something from a Walmart digital watch.

Admittedly bad ***...I'm pretty sure the design of the Apple watch won't change in the next version, so I might have to go ahead and back this. And have it ready when I get my gen 2 of the Apple watch.
