  • Comcast Merger with Time Warner Expected to be Blocked

We knew it wasn't going to be smooth-sailing. But, apparently, it's going to be nearly impossible for Comcast to get what it wants -- Time Warner Cable.

According to sources speaking with Bloomberg, the U.S. Justice Department's antitrust division will likely block the effort by Comcast to acquire Time Warner Cable. The $45.2 billion bid would essentially create a national cable giant the likes of which we've never seen. And that sort of thing makes regulators a little uneasy.

The anticipated blockage is born of "concern that consumers would be harmed."

Of course, if the deal falls through, it could ultimately be a boon for streaming content service providers like Apple. Apple TV, as we know, has been seeing new content on a steady basis this year. And if Apple secures the types of content distribution deals its reportedly looking for tight now, not having to compete with Comcast's super-presence will make it easier for Apple TV to continue to grow and thrive among cable TV-cord cutters.

Nonetheless, a blockage of the proposed merger could become official news by next week.

Please block this merger. My TW service is bad enough let alone letting Comcast get control.

It's been obvious for years that cable is an oligarchy, please don't make it a monopoly.
