  • Microsoft Releases New Office 2016 Preview and Launches Two New iPhone Apps

Microsoft recently released an updated iteration of the Office 2016 for Mac Preview, cleaning up bug and performance problems all while adding new features. The move comes in as the company simultaneously launched two new Office 365 apps for the iPhone, consisting of Office Delve and Office 365 video.

When it comes to the Office 2016 preview, Microsoft released a new feature for Outlook, dubbed “Propose New Time,” which lets meeting guests suggest a new event time and organizers view those proposals and update meetings accordingly. Excel was given a new Analysis ToolPak as well as a new Solve feature. For those of you who didn’t know, Solver is a previously Windows-only tool that can find an optimum value for a formula based on constraints imposed in other cells.

Microsoft updated PowerPoint with improved VoiceOver support as well. The most updated list of features were given to Word, which now supports macro recording, searching for online document templates and user information settings in preferences. When proofing, extra dictionary options allow excluding a dictionary or choosing a custom one.

While its in its preview period, Office 2016 is a free download, even for those without an Office 365 subscription. Users can download the updates manually or through Microsoft’s AutoUpdate tool if they rather do that instead.

Alongside the updated Office 2016 preview, Microsoft released Office Delve and Office 365 Video as mentioned before. Office Delve provides a glimpse at what your colleagues and coworkers are working on, as long as the documents have been shared. The app is a free download for iPhones that are running iOS 8 but is really intended for organizes that are using both Office 365 and Office Delve. Office 365 Video is also organization-oriented, demanding an Office 365 Academic or Enterprise license. The app helps institutions propagate videos such as mission statements, training guides or meeting recordings. Users can record and upload videos on their own, as well as search for videos across different channels and see trending material. To use Office 365 Video, users must have an iPhone with iOS 7 or later.

It seems like Microsoft is hard at work when it comes to leveraging both iOS and Mac devices to their advantage. Are any of you excited about the recent releases made by Microsoft?
