  • iOS 8.3 Patches Another Jailbreak Exploit Used By TaiG

iOS 8.3, which was released yesterday by the Cupertino, California-based Apple to fix a whole truckload of bugs in the operating system and let users have more diversity in their Emoji selection, also appears to patch yet another jailbreak exploit that was used by the TaiG jailbreak team to jailbreak iOS 8.1.x & iOS 8.2 betas 1 & 2.

What this means is that for TaiG to release another jailbreak for iOS 8.3, they would need to find yet another exploit to replace the one that has been patched by Apple.

The particular exploit in question is that of a backup bug, as noted on Apple's Web site:

Well-known iOS hacker MuscleNerd also took to Twitter Wednesday afternoon following the release of iOS 8.3 to share that iOS 8.3 fixed a grand total of 39 security holes in iOS; the whole list of security fixes can be found on Apple's Web site at this link.

    <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>The 39 security bugs fixed in today's iOS 8.3 <a href="https://t.co/eiV23ubkpv">https://t.co/eiV23ubkpv</a> rivals the 7.x-&gt;8.0 release (but JBers still need to avoid it)</p>&mdash; Ⓜ MuscleNerd (@MuscleNerd) <a href="https://twitter.com/MuscleNerd/status/585901439802675200">April 8, 2015</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Making matters even worse, a bug in Touch ID that is affecting a large number of users updating to iOS 8.3 could force Apple to launch yet another software update in the new future, which hopefully won't include any additional bug fixes that could make jailbreaking even harder.

iOS 8.3 appears to be the most solid release of iOS yet in terms of anti-jailbreak security, so hacking teams will have their work cut out for them, but fortunately, TaiG remains confident in their talks of jailbreaking that they will find a way. The best thing to do is to continue to stay positive and patient.

Even Anthony refers to Taig as a "they".. But several here have told me Taig is "he".. Surely Anthony would know.. ??

I've heard that Pangu is a team, but Taig is a single person... No?

on the eve of the watch release. eff it, i'm still buying the watch with the hopes that an 8.3 or 8.3.1 (or whatever fixes the touch ID issue) jailbreak comes out relatively soon.

Same here. As I see it we still have two weeks until it gets here. No point in updating now!

You don't think this will be a jailbreakable operating system?

I'm sure it will be, but Apple might have another update before this one is jailbroken.

That was my point. With the complexity of the operating system, there will always be exploits. It's just a matter of finding them.

Do you follow the Taig Twitter feed? It was clear early on that Taig was "a" person. From King's input it seems like there are 3 now on a Taig "team". Where Pangu was always a "team".

So they are a team now?

A vast majority of these third party hackers operate in complete anonymity and for good reasons. But this forces us to know less about them.

Yes, at the Security conference that they hosted in China recently, there were 3 members of the team. Although I believe it's mostly only 2 of them doing all the work.

Even If TAIG does find an exploit(s) for 8.3, I'm STILL not letting any Chinese hackers inside my phone.
