  • Performance Benchmarks Reveal Apple's New 12'' MacBook is on par with 2011 MacBook Air

Recently posted statistics reveal that Apple’s upcoming 12-inch MacBook laptop will perform at levels similar to that of Apple’s MacBook Air models from 2011. According to Primate Labs’ Geekbench test suite, Apple’s base model 2015 12-inch MacBook, which has been designated as MacBook 8,1, achieved a single core score of 1,924 points while multi-core operations came out to roughly 4,038 points. The performance results end up coming in just a notch below the 2011 11-inch MacBook Air which sports an Intel Core i7 CPU clocked at 1.80 GHz.

The new MacBook runs a power efficient dual-core Intel Core M processor which is clocked at 1.1 GHz. The new processor only requires 5 watts of power with Intel’s mobile-minded Broadwell architecture sipping energy at the expense of performance. That being said, along with the 1.1 GHz chip, the Cupertino California company is offering a 1.3 GHz version as a $300 add-on option.

Despite the performance power not necessarily being the best, the more important factor for an ultralight laptop that is equipped with a high-resolution display was having an acceptable battery life. Apple claims that the MacBook’s 39.7 watt-hour battery can handle up to nine hours of web browsing activities or up to ten hours of movie playback, which is quite impressive.

The new 12-inch MacBook is set to release in store shelves on April 10. Will any of you be picking one up?

And how did graphics performance stack up? This is a frustratingly useless comparison without that info.
