  • Opening Day of F8 Packs Tons of News and Announcements

Today at the F8 Developer Conference in San Francisco, Facebook rolled out 25 new products and services in hopes of attracting more advertisers and developers to its burgeoning social platform and rapidly expanding ecosystem of business and marketing tools.

Chief among today's announcements is the company's plan to make Messenger a platform. As a result, third-party devs can tap into the Messenger API allowing for mobile apps to distribute content straight to Messenger.

Messenger Platform is hyped by Facebook as "a new way for apps to integrate with Messenger so people can better express themselves with GIFs, photos, videos, audio clips and more."

Other new resources include Facebook Analytics for Apps, Businesses on Messenger (which allows businesses to have "personal, real-time conversations" with customers, Spherical Video Coming to News Feed, and Social Plugins, to name a view.

We're told that Day 2 will bring to the stage Facebook Chief Technology Officer Mike Schroepfer and Oculus Chief Scientist Michael Abrash, both of whom will discuss "the latest work from Connectivity Lab, Facebook AI Research, and Oculus."
