  • Apple Completes More Than Two Dozen Acquisitions in the Last Year

While tech heavyweights like Google and Yahoo get ample attention for occasional acquisitions (just this week, Google is rumored to be acquiring mobile ad network InMobi), Apple's acquisitions tend to garner much less attention. The reason? Apple keeps things pretty well under wraps.

But according to the data compiled in everything from investor reports and regulatory filings, to LinkedIn profile updates and the good old rumor mill, we know Apple has been acquiring up a storm in recent years.

In fact, since the start of 2015 (the last fifteen months), Apple has acquired more than two dozen companies. By Apple CEO Tim Cook's own admission, Apple has absorbed some 26 companies in that time frame.

So, do we have a list of the purchases? Not quite. Our friends at AppleInsider noted today that just 9 of the 26 acquisitions are now public knowledge. The rest? We simply don't know.

Only a handful of Apple's acquisitions have reached the light of day, most notably, Beats, Burstly, Swell, BookLamp, Semetric and Prss. So with just a few rare exceptions, Apple operates almost entirely in secrecy when acquiring a company, as opposed to some of the over-the-top announcements and press releases put forward by countless Apple competitors.
