  • Apple Watch Features Showcased at 'Spring Forward' Event

"What you wear is an expression of who you are," Apple CEO Tim Cook said of Apple Watch in this morning's presentation. Apple Watch is "the most advanced time piece ever created, a revolutionary new way to connect with others."

As expected, Cook used today's event to give the company's inaugural wearable device a major marketing push. Once again, Cook portrayed Apple Watch as a unique and ultra-convenient way to communicate using a range of innovative new and highly customizable mechanisms to do so -- from sending doodles, one's own heartbeat, and even using the watch as a means to take phone calls (something Cook said he's wanted to do since he was just 5 years old).

Additionally, Cook says Apple Watch delivers access to email, social media, Apple Pay, texts, news, sports, Facebook alerts, and according to Cook, virtually every notification available for iPhone.

To illustrate the health and fitness attributes of the Apple Watch, Apple gave supermodel and maternal health advocate Christy Turlington Burns an opportunity to run a half marathon in Africa wearing the watch.

"Apple Watch is going to help me get there," Turlington said of a marathon in London she's also preparing to run, pointing to the training and coaching abilities of the Apple Watch (her training will be monitored and available on a blog shared on Apple.com, Cook subsequently revealed).

Although Apple belabored much of what we already knew of the Apple Watch, todayís long-winded demo did manage to show off the deviceís features for those who may not have watched last fallís product unveiling.

Once the presentation wrapped up, however, we got the news we really wanted. Cook says Apple Watch (sport), which has been designed for all day battery life (18 hours), will go for $349 (38mm) or for the larger model (42mm), it's $50 more.

Additional pricing and shipping data is expected momentarily. This post will be updated when the information becomes available.

    UPDATE:

Preorders begin April 10th. Live demos will be available in Apple retail stores. Apple Watch available April 24th in many countries around the world, including the U.S. and China.

The stainless steel model is priced as follows: 38mm goes for between $549-$1,049 based on your band selections. The larger 42mm goes for $50 more

The solid gold Apple Watch, of which there will be limited quantities, starts at $10,000.

I need to know for running:

      1) Can I load Runkeeper app to it and track by GPS satellites instead of cellular so I won't need a phone *tethered* to this watch?
      2) Will third party music apps like TrailMix also be able to be loaded and operate simultaneously with Runkeeper?
      3) Can it survive a downpour if the sky opens up while outside running?

      1) Pretty sure no because there's no GPS in it.
      3) "Apple Watch is splash and water resistant but not waterproof. You can, for example, wear and use Apple Watch during exercise, in the rain, and while washing your hands, but submerging Apple Watch is not recommended. Apple Watch has a water resistance rating of IPX7 under IEC standard 60529. The leather bands are not water resistant." (footnote on Apple's website)

tim cook said based on the type of watch band you get apparently, but there all custom made and limited quantities, so its not like were all gonna get one. its tailored for Donald trump, and celebrities, and rappers, not us regular human beings with families and blue collared jobs. not you but i dont understand why people get upset about price, i myself will research more into how they feel, but I'm looking at the stainless steel version.
