  • Forthcoming Japan Display Facility Will Likely Be All About Apple

On Friday, Japan Display announced plans -- big plans -- to construct a new $1.4 billion liquid crystal display manufacturing plant, about which the buzz continues to include Apple at every turn.

According a new report from Reuters, sources close to the plant's development say Japan Display wants to do everything it can to accommodate Apple and become a primary supplier in the process.

If reports are accurate, the new facility in Japan will largely be dedicated to doing work for Apple, although no mention of Apple was officially made. Nonetheless, the company's future plans line up nicely with Apple's anticipated major production output needs next year.

Japan Display, which plans to start operations at the new plant in 2016, is optimistic that they can increase LCD capacity by 20 percent. The productivity boost will be helpful at a time when Apple will likely be producing a record number of Apple products for a global user base that continues to swell at an unprecedented rate.
